Ovation West’s May 9 Event Designed to Recreate a Bygone Era
Ovation West invites patrons to step out of the ordinary and into a world of mystery, glamour, and intrigue at Spotlight & Shadows: Mystery at Center Stage on May 9 from 6-10 pm. Set inside Evergreen’s historic theater beneath the warm glow of marquee lights and the hush of velvet curtains, guests will enter a time when jazz lingered in the air, secrets hid in plain sight, and stories were around every corner.
To embrace the spirit of the event, attendees are encouraged to wear their finest 1940s-inspired black and white attire for wandering through an immersive noir experience. Organizers promise smoky melodies, shadowy surprises, signature cocktails, and live entertainment that blurs the line between audience and stage.
While engaging in drama and decadence, guests will also be in attendance for a meaningful purpose. Proceeds from the evening support the performing arts under the Ovation West umbrella—the Evergreen Chorale, Ovation West Theatre Company, and Summer Musical Theater Camp. Funds will also benefit the maintenance of the historic Center Stage. Tickets for the fundraiser are $75 and include hors d’oeuvres, dessert, a drink and a commemorative glass. A four-pack of tickets comes with a $50 savings. Go to ovationwest.org for tickets and more information.
Evergreen Conservatory of Music Offers Abundant Summer Programming
From age-specific summer camps and free early childhood music classes to small group instruction in percussion and voice, the Evergreen Conservatory of Music has planned a spectrum of curriculum options sure to keep children of all ages engaged and entertained this summer.
A free program for babies up to 18 months old is the Conservatory’s Foundations early childhood class to which caregivers are invited. This offering, taught by Conservatory founder Elena Keil, is the organization’s gift to the community and part of its vision to incorporate musical experiences into a child’s life from day one. Little ones will be introduced to singing and song, movement and dance, and rhythm with plenty of bonding opportunities with their parents or caregivers.
From June 1–August 23, 2–5-year-olds can enjoy an introduction to music through Kindermusik, which meets Thursdays from 4-5 pm. Children aged 4-6 can explore rhythms in The Little Drummers group on Thursdays from 4-5 pm or sing in the Full Voice class that runs Tuesdays from 4-5 pm.
A series of summer camps has been designed to promote the arts to three different age groups. They are Future Pros for ages 6-9, Mountain Masters for students aged 9-13 and Peak Performers for teens 14 and older. Each camp offers modules on a variety of topics in a Monday–Friday format for 2-3 hours each day. For more information on the Conservatory’s offerings and pricing, go to evergreenconservatory.com.
