On November 11, your Evergreen Chamber of Commerce and our members will be gathering to celebrate the best in our community at our yearly business awards evening called Sparkle & Shine. Thanks to co-title sponsors Caldwell Insurance Agency and 1st Colorado Roofing, this is an evening of fun and celebration. Everyone in the community is welcome to participate in voting for the best in each category. The nominees are:

Business of the Year: Evergreen Discount Liquor, Lam Tree Service, Kids to College Dentistry, and Shirley Septic.

New Business of the Year (2022): FlowTheory CoWorks, Troutdale Tavern, Bistro del Lago, Marc Cimmino with UBS Financial, and Fountain Barbecue.
Young Professional of the Year: Laura Clark of Mountainside Bakery, Colby Amen of 1st Bank, Samantha Glenn of Land Title, Aysha Diril of Go Paint, and Cory Vander Veen of Evergreen Park & Recreation District.

People’s Choice Business: Caldwell Insurance Agency, Evan’s Auto Care, Evergreen Clothing & Mercantile, Evergreen Dental Group, and Robert & Associates.
Nonprofit of the Year: Boogie Benefits, Evergreen Rodeo, Evergreen Sustainability, Seniors4Wellness, and Wild Aware.

To vote on any of the above, download the app from your smartphone app store called “Everything Evergreen.” When you open the app, go to the “Live/Work/Stay” community and the Business Awards will show up first on your screen. Trust me when I say these businesses and nonprofits really appreciate your support!

Speaking of support, Evergreen Park & Recreation District also needs our collective support this election season. There will be a ballot initiative titled 6C on our ballots, which will ask each of us to extend an existing bond measure that was passed in 2005 that provides funding for EPRD. In 2005, EPRD had a list of projects they were looking to use the bond funds to accomplish. Now, those funds are needed to address a long list of maintenance fixes that are needed at every one of the aging facilities they own, maintenance of the outdoor trail system they manage, and funding for any future programmatic and facilities expansion. The reality, however, is if this bond measure does not pass, we will all feel the repercussions. Trails may not be cleared of snow as quickly, parts of facilities will experience closures, fees for existing programs and facilities will increase, and future expansion of programs and facilities will be on hold indefinitely. So, the real question, in my opinion, is whether the residents of Evergreen value recreation and want to continue to be a community that offers recreation opportunities to residents of all ages—in the recreation centers and the fields and trails they maintain. If this is something you value, then voting yes when your ballot arrives in the middle of this month will be an important action you can take.
