Spring is arriving at Beaver Ranch Park, bringing longer days, melting snow (not much), and the return of full-season activity across the mountain. As the park transitions out of winter and into one of our busiest times of year, we wanted to share an important update on what to expect this season, along with a look at what’s ahead.

A Major Year for Beaver Ranch Park

Many of you have likely heard that a large-scale improvement project is beginning this year at Beaver Ranch Park. This project has been years in the making and represents a significant investment in both the park and the community. At $9 million, it is one of the largest projects in Jefferson County Open Space history. The goal is simple: improve accessibility, enhance the overall experience, and ensure Beaver Ranch continues to serve the community for generations to come, while maintaining the character that makes this place special.

“At $9 million, it is one of the largest projects in Jefferson County Open Space history.”

What’s Coming to the Park

You’ll begin to see a number of improvements taking shape throughout the season, including:

• A new accessible playground, approximately three times the size of the current playground, featuring updated equipment, shade structures, seating, and a dedicated restroom

• A new bark park for park visitors and their dogs

• Improvements to both the main trailhead and upper trailhead

• Upgrades to the community center, including interior and exterior improvements, air-conditioning, refinished floors, and a more refined, rustic aesthetic

• Continued improvements to gathering spaces, including the chapel meadow area

In addition, we will begin development of a track chair and hand crank bike program, which will be available throughout the park and provide free adaptive recreation opportunities for individuals with mobility impairments.

Construction & What to Expect

With a project of this size, there will naturally be some short-term adjustments throughout the year. The most important thing to know: Beaver Ranch Park will remain OPEN and accessible for the majority of the season. While certain areas may experience temporary and intermittent closures, access will be maintained wherever it is safe and feasible to do so. During peak summer months, impacts are expected to be limited, with only a short window where portions of the park may be temporarily closed to complete key phases of work. Outside of that window, visitors can expect to continue enjoying Beaver Ranch much as they always have, with some evolving layouts and minor adjustments as construction progresses. Spring Conditions & Getting Back Out There

Spring in the Rockies always brings a mix of conditions. You can expect:

• Mud, snow, and dry trails all within the same week

• Changing conditions depending on elevation and exposure

• A gradual return to full park accessibility as the season progresses

As always, come prepared with proper footwear and be ready for variable conditions.

Park Experience This Season

Even with improvements underway, a large portion of the park will remain active and available throughout the season. Some areas and amenities may shift slightly in how they are accessed, but the goal throughout this process is to keep Beaver Ranch Open. Usable. Enjoyable. We are working closely with all parties involved to ensure that access is preserved wherever possible.

Community, Events & Looking Ahead

Beaver Ranch continues to grow as a hub for community activity.

• Weddings and private events continue to be a cornerstone of the park

• Community programming will continue to expand

• Outdoor education and recreation opportunities will continue to grow

As improvements are completed, these offerings will only continue to improve.

Volunteer Opportunities

If you’re looking to get involved and give back to the park, we are always looking for volunteers. Opportunities include:

• Track chair program

• Hand crank bike program

• Movie on the Mountain

• Park maintenance and cleanup days

• Community events

More Updates Coming Soon

Phase 1 of construction is currently scheduled to begin May 7, though this does not introduce any immediate closures. We will be providing a more detailed update toward the end of April with specific timing, access details, and what to expect as construction progresses.

Spring Is Here

Spring at Beaver Ranch is always a time of transition, and this year more than ever. With new improvements on the horizon and another full season ahead, we’re looking forward to what’s shaping up to be one of the most impactful years in the park’s history. We appreciate your continued support and look forward to seeing you up on the mountain.
