Our gratitude to Yvonne Lipson, DO (Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine), 11-year veteran of the Rotary Club of Conifer, and Chair of the Rotary’s MindFest Committee, for her contribution of this article.
Introducing: your amazing brain! Your brain only weighs about 3 pounds, about the weight of a 1⁄2 gallon of milk, and yet it controls all your thoughts, memories and emotions, as well as movement, breathing, and every other process that regulates your body. So, taking care of your brain is very important! On February 17, the Rotary Club of Conifer’s First Annual MindFest—Living Your Best Life will showcase a variety of ways to improve your brain’s health.
Your body’s health can be affected by many different things such as nutrition, exercise, drugs and alcohol, and environmental factors—and like a car, your body needs regular maintenance, and that includes your brain!
Yes, your brain/mind is part of your body. Without regular care, your brain can become overwhelmed, resulting in stress, anxiety and depression, three of the most common forms of “mental illness” in our society today.
You might think it would be difficult to take care of such an important organ, but surprisingly, it isn’t. Simply taking a few deep breaths or petting a dog can have a substantial effect on your brain’s health. Join The Rotary Club of Conifer on February 17 for MindFest—Living Your Best Life. This is a free community event at which you can learn more about your amazing brain and how to take care of it!
MindFest—Living Your Best Life will be presented Saturday, February 17 at Our Lady of the Pines Church, 9444 Eagle Cliff Road in Conifer from 9 am to 2 pm.
The Rotary Club of Conifer is a service club well-known for its strong commitment to community service along the 285 Corridor and surrounding mountain communities with such programs as the 285 Backpack Project, Literacy programs, Young RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Awards), RYLA, the new Conifer Peace Park, and various grants to community nonprofits and scholarships to our 285 Corridor high schools.
