Phew! Did it seem like the summer was crazy busy, or is it just me? Does it also seem like summer went by in a flash? The colors have changed, and my thoughts are moving on to the holidays. I am feeling whiplash… anyone else? Since I have not figured out a way to slow time, nor have I heard that anyone else has, we all had better hold on tightly because there is so much still on the calendar as we slide into fall.

My boys have grown and flown, but I still possess an affinity for Halloween. My oldest was ever the thinker, so his costumes leaned toward the sarcastic or a play on words, and my younger son usually took the easy road and relied on costumes around athletics. With two boys in our house, we had all the equipment! I am always a softie for princesses and homemade ghosts and goblins. Evergreen Park & Recreation kicks off the Halloween season with a Haunted Halloween Trail and the outdoor showing of “Haunted Mansion” on October 19. This new trail will offer the option of a “haunted zone” for those who are not afraid of ghosts and goblins, but there will be candy for all, even if you do not choose to experience this haunted zone. This is happening rain or shine, so bundle up accordingly.

If you want to get in some exercise before sneaking the leftover candy at work, Evergreen Animal Protective League hosts the Zombie Run on October 27. Two and four legged participants are welcome, and do not forget the costume contest! Run, walk, creep or crawl for a ghoulish good time.

The traditional trick or treating will take place in downtown Evergreen on October 31 from 4-6 pm. Treats for the kiddos and treats for the adults—everyone is happy!

The Evergreen Elks Lodge is offering an indoor Trick or Treat Trail from 4-7 pm including the “haunted mezzanine” adventure. Games and activities in addition to trick or treating are featured.

If you are a fan of the cooler temperatures but are not going to be enjoying any trick or treating, then do not forget Hops Drops on October 26 at the Lake House. I have heard that they have something special planned this year that they are calling “An Immersive Lake House Experience.”
