Chill Out, Evergreen! Saturday, March 2 is the Second Annual Chill Out Winterfest sponsored by Caldwell Insurance, an American Family Insurance office here in Evergreen. This is a day filled with fun for everyone in our community. Your Evergreen Chamber of Commerce will be partnering with Evergreen Park & Recreation, Outbound Mountain Gear, and many of our businesses across town to provide fun and frivolity to beat the winter blues and get us ready for spring! The day begins early with check-in at 7 am at the lake house for the first annual Ice Fishing Tournament hosted by Evergreen Park & Recreation. The tournament runs from 8 am – 1 pm.

If your kids have asked you what people are doing out on the ice in the winter, it may be time for them to learn how to ice fish. EPRD and Colorado Parks & Wildlife will be running a clinic for kids ages 4+ from 9 am – 11 am.
The fun continues with the Mushies Cup. What is a Mushies Cup? you ask. Think large, fun inflatables on the ice with one team member pulling the other. Mush! Mush! Family-friendly hilarious competition for all ages on the ice. Teams of two or four take to the ice to pull, like a dog sled, their teammate(s) around an obstacle course without popping their float or losing their teammate off the float! Races will run between 10 am – noon.
Have you noticed that EPRD has added a course around the ice this season for cross-country skiing? Outbound Mountain Gear is hosting a Touring Ski Race. Don your split or AT Skis and complete the course on Evergreen Lake. The course is currently snow-packed and running fast. Don’t have the equipment? Outbound Mountain Gear will get you outfitted for the race. Check-in at noon at the Lake House.
Think you know Evergreen well? Then challenge yourself and your family or friends to one of our Amazing Race courses. This year, we will offer three courses. The Original Amazing Race will consist of teams of four, one of whom is your designated driver, completing challenges for points at establishments across the community, followed by enjoying an adult beverage at each location before receiving your next location. Want to try something a bit more physical? Then choose either the course in Evergreen North or the Downtown course. Both will consist of equally fun challenges, but you will be walking from one challenge to the next. Each of these two loops will take you about 2 miles on foot. Both courses on foot are appropriate for families and groups of teens. Each of the Amazing Race competitions will conclude back at the Lake House for a celebration.
To cap off a day of fun, EPRD will host a Teen Skate from 4 – 8 pm. All are welcome, but know in advance the event will be geared toward teens—our kids need to have some fun just for them! There will be games on the ice, firepits for s’mores and music the teens will like. Inside the Lake House, the Chamber will be hosting a Family Game Night from 5 – 8 pm. Adult beverages will be available for purchase, Slife’s food truck will be on hand selling burgers, brats and dogs for dinner, and the games will be appropriate for all.
