They dip in and out

All day long.

Fridge opens, closes.

Snack drawer empty.

Dirty dishes dwell.

Phone, friends, gym, work, sleep.

Cars up, down driveway.

Doors opening,

closing all hours.

Dull music thumps.

Late night laughter.

They sleep like the dead.

We share a meal.

Conversation ensues.

Brief, just enough before horn in driveway

catapults to more summer fun.

So I go:

Yoga, swim, work, errands.

Return to empty home.

Beds unmade

Dishes about

Dogs unfed

Doors ajar

Rinse, repeat.

When stars align,

we’re all in the kitchen.

Pleasantries exchanged.

Peace radiates through me.

Simple moments.

Off they go again…

As do I.
