“You simply cannot find a more environmentally friendly way to clean carpets, rugs and upholstery.

Remember the first time you were old enough to refer back to something that was “20 years ago?” Twenty years is a milestone that is sure to mark the first feeling of getting older (wiser, perhaps?). How about thinking back to something 30 years ago, or more? Considering all the ways the world has changed, the things you’ve done in all those years, those whom you’ve shared so many memories with, it’s an experience that’s bound to be filled with nostalgia and reflection. Well that 30-year milestone has come and gone since we started XL, and we could not be more grateful to have grown it in one of the most beautiful places on earth—Evergreen, Colorado!

XL began back in 1989 with little knowledge of carpet cleaning and even less money for equipment, but with the confidence that this cleaning process could be BIG. It was unlike any process we’d seen before and had what we believed to be many advantages (more on that in a bit). Armed with the resolve to start our own business and having found a process we could be proud to represent,

XL Carpet Care was born.

Take a look at our first work vehicle (above); man, would we love to have that relic parked out front of our office as a sign of how far we’ve come. That old Ford Econoline Van, those things were bulletproof, and huge! You could fit in more than you ever thought possible (rumor has it that even Ford wasn’t 100 percent sure how many people you could fit in there), and it would take you anywhere you needed to go. That “go anywhere” ability meant a lot, working up here in Evergreen, what with some clients’ half-mile driveways covered in snow at a 25 percent incline. Those are the stories we tell our newest employees, to let them know just how good they have it now!

Compare that van with our modern work vehicles and it’s clear that we’ve been around for some time. So, how’d we do it? How’d we last this long, changing very little about our process in 30 years time, when our modern world is hardly recognizable compared to three decades ago? It starts with the people: XL has always employed that “small-town” mentality, where we know our clients are the same people we see at the grocery store or out on the hiking trail. We genuinely cared about customer satisfaction, and still do, which is why we’ve never changed our Satisfaction Guarantee: if you’re not satisfied, we’ll come back and make it right—free of charge! From your first call to set an appointment to the time we’re backing out of your driveway after a job well-done, the passion we have for our business will shine through. Our employees show up with  smile on their faces, armed with the knowledge and skill to handle any size job.

Now, more on our process and those aforementioned “advantages.” Like we said, our process has changed very little in 30 years time. You’ve heard the saying, “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” We found a process we liked, that works, and we’ve stuck with it. That said, we still receive many questions and even more raised eyebrows when our clients first set eyes on the bright orange cleaning compound we start tossing on their carpet (see cover image). So, what IS it? Our process uses an organic, all-natural, plant-based cleaning compound that delivers the liquid cleaning ingredients to the carpet fibers in a controlled manner, leaving behind zero dirty water or residue to promote mold or rapid resoiling. We work this product through your carpet, and it immediately starts absorbing and extracting the dirt like a sponge, as well as restoring the carpet pile. Rest assured! All of that pollen, dirt, bacteria, those pesky dust mites and (eek!) pet stains are absorbed and removed from your home in our vacuums. In fact, this same cleaning compound can remove soil attracting residues left behind by other cleaning methods. (See the before & after photo on this page to see how much dirt this compound absorbs!)

Our motto for the last 30 years has always been “Don’t Get Soaked—Try Dry!” We believe that if you can control the water, you can control the dirt. That’s why the only water we use is in a light “pre-spray” containing a soapless detergent and natural disinfectant, which helps to loosen the dirts and oils, getting them ready to be extracted. Our dry time is measured in minutes, not hours, meaning less downtime for you and your family. Over the years, XL Carpet Care has expanded to offer upholstery, tile and grout cleaning in addition to our carpet and rug cleaning services.

But what do we mean when we say that XL is Green? Being “Green” may sound cliché by this point, but it’s something that’s always been important to us at XL, and another reason we’ve stuck with this specific process for as long as we have. For starters, our bright orange cleaning compound is hypoallergenic, has a neutral pH, and is listed on the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Bio-Preferred list and lab certified to be 99.9 percent organic. Our process also minimizes the energy requirements of carpet cleaning. It’s estimated that hot water extraction processes use an average of 120 gallons of hot water per 1,000 square feet of carpet cleaned, meaning that it’s not uncommon for them to require upwards of 300 gallons of hot water to clean a typical home in Evergreen! With XL, you’re saving the energy required to heat that water, reducing water consumption, and you won’t need blowers or air conditioning to dry the carpet once we’re done. You simply cannot find a more environmentally friendly way to clean carpets, rugs and upholstery.

If you’re reading this article, you surely also noticed the photo we selected for the cover of the magazine, and you might be asking yourself, “Why that?” Well, we’re often confronted with questions as to why our process is unlike the rest, why we’re so…  different. Rather than dread the questions, we welcome them! We like to bring our differences front and center and discuss why we believe we have a better product and service than the rest. That’s why we wanted to showcase our bright orange cleaning compound for all to see. It may be different, but it always gives clients a level of satisfaction they can’t find anywhere else. The next time you need your carpet or upholstery cleaned, join our thousands of happy customers and “Don’t Get Soaked—Try Dry!” We recently overhauled our website, complete with a video demonstrating the Dry Carpet Cleaning process, before/after photos, client testimonials and current promotions.
