Kachkovsky & Fisher

Registered Investment Advisor

By Amy J. Born

Kris Fisher grew up in Saginaw, Michigan. When a financial advisor visited his high school economics class to discuss financial planning and investing, Kris discovered his future vocation. After attending Michigan State University, as his parents and grandparents had, he went on to receive his Certified Financial Planner professional certification from the College for Financial Planning. The decision to help others manage their finances was further reinforced when he saw the stress that loved ones experienced during financial difficulties. His early excitement about the stock market deepened into a calling to help people plan for a secure financial future.

To escape the brutally cold Michigan winters, Kris moved to Phoenix where he met his business partner, Garry Kachkovsky. Kachkovsky & Fisher is really a story of friendship, entrepreneurial spirit, commitment to independence and putting clients’ interests first. They decided to start their own firm based on those ideals. To minimize expenses, they moved in together, and for a while ate a lot of ramen noodles and PB&Js. By taking a long-term, conservative approach to business and sticking to their vision, Kachkovsky & Fisher flourished.

When they opened their doors in 2001, they became a Registered Investment Advisor (RIA) at a time when very few firms were. As a fee-only RIA, they are legally required to act as fiduciaries when providing investment advice and are transparent in their compensation. As it relates to protection planning, some clients need insurance to protect families, assets, income and quality of life. If they feel it’s prudent for a client to purchase term life insurance, disability or long-term care insurance, the firm will donate 100 percent of the compensation they receive to charity. The charitable organizations they’ve donated to include The Evergreen Rotary Foundation, Rotary International, Mount Evans Home Health Care & Hospice, Phoenix Children’s Hospital, Charity: Water, Big Brothers Big Sisters, Habitat for Humanity, Wounded Warrior Project and the La Jolla Golden Triangle Rotary Club.

Kris also met his wife, Angie, in Phoenix. They regularly escaped the intense summer heat of Arizona with trips to Colorado. For a couple of weeks each year, they explored Durango, Telluride and Ouray, and eventually made their way to Evergreen to visit Kris’ brother who lives here. Kris and Angie decided Evergreen was the right place to raise their two girls, Kora and Macy, and made the move in 2015. The family learned to ski and enjoy all the mountains have to offer including camping, cycling and hiking. Garry and his family moved to California, so the business now has offices in Phoenix, Evergreen and San Diego.

“Not enough people devote the time they should to their financial lives. It’s understood we need a plan to build a home, start a new business or take a European vacation. Too few have financial plans that include portfolio management, retirement, college and estate planning. We feel strongly about two rules: 1) have a plan and 2) stick to the plan, while making appropriate adjustments along the way,” Kris explained.
